Assemblages by Rene von Richthofen

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

The Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens offer the assemblages and wall reliefs of always-flamboyant artist Rene von Richthofen from Nov 9-27. His works are smart, amusing and at times erotic. Richthofen’s love of all things automobile combined with all things miniature: cars, trucks, planes and found objects help to create his style of work. The new works explore the paradoxes and contrasts that are currently associated with the automobile.

The Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens, Inc. is a recognized 501 (c)(3) operating foundation established in 1977 by the prominent sculptor Ann Weaver Norton (1905-1982). The gardens are conveniently located at 253 Barcelona Road, at the corner of Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach, FL. The rare palm and sculpture gardens, exhibition galleries, and artist studio are currently open Wednesday-Sunday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Admission is $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for children ages 5 and over. For more information, contact or 561-832-5328. Art Palm Beach posted a record attendance of more than 6,000 on opening night Jan. 20 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach.

Nearly 80 exhibitors laid out displays of fine and decorative contemporary art from around the world. In addition, a number of curated shows featured up-to-the-minute art, including one curated by Gean Moreno on the theme of precarious structures in a globalized world that featured artists from Miami, London, New York and Colombia.

When they weren’t inspecting the art, VIP guests refreshed themselves with cocktails and caviar in the lounge provided for them.

Seen making the rounds of the dealers were Kevin Clark, Jeannine Henrion, Greet Claessens, Hashem and Kate Khosrovani, Diane Kisner and Angie McNamara, Cheri Mascitelli, Zak Odhwani, Erik Brown, Carol Casey, Cherryl Cannon, Brandon Bosma, Daniel and Shanna Kahan, Ted Cooney, Jane and Rene Von Richthofen, JoAnna Ballarini, Alex Harvey, Helga Wagner, Helmut Koller, Carlos Morrison, and Maura and Roberto Riva.
